For California Cannabis Travelers, the Sky’s NOT the Limit
If you plan on flying the friendly skies with marijuana and cannabis-infused products, there are a few things you should know.
Prop 64 may have paved the way for California’s pot industry to skyrocket, but with the state producing 13.5 million pounds of marijuana in 2016—which is about five times more than the state’s residents consumed that year—it’s clear that people are looking to export product out of a market that is quickly becoming saturated.
But here’s the problem.
The federal government and the TSA still regard marijuana as a Schedule 1 narcotic, so if you’re bound for Chicago and conveniently forget your weed pen and a small stash in your toiletry bag, you’re ripe for the pinching when you touch down at O’Hare. What’s more, arrests at LAX are up roughly 166%, with some California agencies reporting intercepting vacuum-sealed bricks of product in checked baggage.
So what can you get away with, and what types of laws are being enacted to help make the legal lines of demarcation a little bolder? Read more in this article.
